Good Bye Summer

Our Pennsylvania Summer was ushered out the door with a Frost Warning two nights ago. This has left me with a forest of herbs on my little "writing desk" that faces West, and the backyard of course. I love that I can write and see a little green from our HUGE Maple *that survived an attack from the tree guy last year - but that's another post* and our Lilac.

We throw a Halloween party every year. We buy costumes and spend too much time and money making food and buying booze, but it is worth it, every single time. Last year the World Series was on and that kind of sucked the "party" right out of it for some, so lets hope that doesn't happen this year...Okay, PHILLIES are you listening???

And with the prep of the party comes the house hunting...every year our place is a little nicer so the "to sell" list gets a little shorter...This year it was just one house, this amazing old turn of the century stone house. The house of a life time. Literally TWICE the house we have now, and it's so - well, Pretty. I like to think of myself as someone who doesn't care about material things but I'm human and I have faults, and I always think my life might - for a little bit - get better, with the new rain coat I'll be dryer, with that new cashmere sweater I'll be warm & stylish, with that new house, I could some how have an extra day a week to read, and my things wouldn't clutter my office.

But the truth is this. I love our house. My office has custom built-in book shelves on one wall. He just finished my desk top opposite my "writing desk". We've built a walk in closet out of an alcove, and I'm happy here. But we will not be able to stay in this house, with the HUGE maple, and the fenced in yard forever. More than one child would compel us into another place. This house has a lot of history for me, I've made big steps in this house. Some of my first steps that didn't feel like I was running away from my home town.

So the Dining room will be Sage before the party, but the ceiling still needs a major repair (1930's Lathe & Plaster). Then the kitchen is the next BIG job. Next fall I venture we will be repeating the process of party planning and house hunting...
